What I Happen to Be Reading At the Moment

"A thirteen-year-old is a kaleidoscope of different personalities, if not in most ways a mere figment of her own imagination. At that age, what and who you are depends largely on what book you happen to be reading at the moment.”

While not 13 anymore, the desire to read almost anything and everything in order to read for fun and for experience is still around. I'm currently working on my PhD in a physical science, but I love to read and books are one of my non-science hobbies.

Saga, Volume 1

Saga, Volume 1 - Brian K. Vaughan, Fiona Staples Saga was one of those comics I saw recommended even on book blogs, and in my comics binge this holiday I picked it up before I headed out.

The art is good, even if the story is a little Farscape. Actually, it's super Farscape but I actually could get into Saga. There are two alien species who have been fighting for centuries, eventually outsourcing their war somewhere else, until a Romeo/Juliet meet up in a prison changes all of this. Alana and Marek escape, have a baby, and are on the run.

That's just the first few panels of the first issue.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but while the story is good and the art incredible, there are a lot of naked people and it threw me off a few times. I get that it's an artistic choice and everything, but for some reason it's still more shocking to me in visual form than just when it's written. It's not a big deal, but this is definitely not The Amazing Spider-Man

Otherwise, it's an amazing beginning to a comics series of which I want to read more.
